Sean Bruce has one of the simplest MySpace sites out there — no frills, no wild backgrounds, no flashiness — but the simplicity is the perfect introduction to the man and his music. Bruce has said his music “makes folk sound cool enough for even the hipsters,” and he’s not far from the truth. His laid back sound pays an homoage to folks sounds (even bringing to mind a little Bob Dylan here and there), but the sound isn’t a throwback. It’s fresh, present, now. On his page, you can sample two Bruce tracks, In His Eyes and Take a Risk, and you can sample a video of Bruce in action. The rolling melody of In His Eyes is subtle and beautiful, and the same aesthetic flows through the notes of Take a Risk. It’s lovely stuff, and it makes you want to catch Bruce in action as soon as possible. Luckily, he’s playing The Office on Aug. 3 at 9 p.m., and he’s playing Artmosphere later this month.
