One of the perks of being married to a music club owner is that I am often given the task of screening perspective bands trying to get a gig.

HOWEVER...

One of the pitfalls of being married to a music club owner is that I am often given the task of screening perspective bands trying to get a gig. It's not all Alison Krauss-esque or Freddie Mercury-esque vocals if you know what I'm saying. But that's just the music elitist in me speaking. (To know more about the concept of music elitist read here!).

One thing's for sure, it's always exciting to listen to what our local musicians are recording...

Saturday night, Lafayette's own Troy Richard and The Richard Revue had their CD release party at the Blue Moon Saloon. Needless to say it was another great night on the back porch....HOT, but good.

In the morning is when Mark and I catch up on the previous night's show. He usually hands me a CD and tells me which songs are his favorites and why (which is when I occasionally tune out and cook myself and egg).

What I like about Richard Revue's new album, Door Ajar, amongst other things, is its raw honest lyrics, its beautiful harmonies and the laments of the slide and pedal steel guitar.

I would go on, but I am already too close to sounding like a music critic, and that I am not (unless you step into my office...then, all bets are off and you might as well refer to me as Mr. Fricke).

Anyhow, you would think I would share with y'all the song 1/2&1/2, a song about our very own Blue Moon Saloon & Guesthouse, but instead I want to showcase the song that appealed to me the most.

I like Always Afterall.

I think it is a beautiful song due in part to its simplicity....not in it's message, but in its sound.

Congrats to all of the Richard Revue!

You can purchase Richard Revue's new CD on iTunes or at the Blue Moon Saloon & Guesthouse.
